Sub-Zero builds refrigeration and nothing else. In 75 percent humidity that narrow focus is exactly where the failures concentrate.
Wolf builds cooking equipment only. The failures we see are ignition, thermostat drift and boards cooked by heat and by grid events.
Thermador is the broadest line we service — cooking, columns, dishwashers and ventilation — so the regional stressors all land somewhere in it.
Bosch dishwashers dry by condensation rather than with a heater, which is why a humid Florida kitchen changes how they behave at the end of a cycle.
A Miele kitchen is usually four or five Miele appliances. The parts, the documentation and the service intervals are shared, and so is the visit.
Viking Range is the professional-kitchen appliance maker, not the Florida town of the same name, and here it is the brand most likely to be outdoors — so salt air, rain and a summer heat load head the fault list.
Naming a manufacturer here identifies the appliances we repair and nothing else. The affiliation notice is in the footer of every page. All six brands · browse by equipment instead.
Every call we take in Northeast Florida is a built-in kitchen appliance: built-in refrigeration , ice machines , dishwashers , wall ovens and ranges and cooktops and ventilation . Refrigeration, ice, dishwashing, baking, cooking and the hood over it — six things a kitchen does, and the machines that do them.
We do not work on heating, air conditioning, ductwork or heat pumps. That is a separate trade with a separate licence, and no amount of overlap in the vocabulary changes it: a condenser in a refrigerator and a condenser in an air handler are not the same machine, and we only open one of them. We do not take laundry calls either. If the fault is in your furnace, your air handler or the ducts, a licensed HVAC contractor is who you want — we would rather say that now than at your kitchen door.
Storm sequence
Hurricane Matthew knocked out power for nearly 250,000 metro customers in October 2016. Hurricane Irma produced the worst Jacksonville flooding in nearly a century in September 2017. Hurricane Helene took 113,000 JEA customers off the grid in September 2024. The repair calls that follow each one arrive in a predictable order, and most of the expensive ones were avoidable in act one.

Clean the condenser on every built-in refrigerator and ice machine in the house. Check gasket compression at four points on each door. Turn the refrigerator and freezer down a step or two so there is thermal margin banked before anything happens. Photograph the model and serial plate on each appliance while the lights are on — that plate is inside a door or behind a grille and it is unreadable by torchlight in a hot kitchen.
Keep refrigeration doors shut. A well-sealed built-in holds temperature for hours without help. Then, once the power is genuinely out, open the breakers for the refrigeration, the range or wall oven, and the ice machine, or unplug what you can reach. Nothing in a dark house needs to be connected, and everything connected is exposed when the grid returns.
Let the street run for about twenty minutes before you restore anything — early restoration is unstable and it is common to see it drop again. Bring appliances back one at a time. Give refrigeration several hours to pull down before judging it. If a unit hums and cuts out, will not boot, or lights its interface without responding, stop cycling it and have it looked at; repeated restart attempts damage a compressor that is already struggling.
A built-in appliance is fitted into a hole someone else cut, wired to whatever circuit was there, and often plumbed as an afterthought. The house decides all three, and the houses here are not alike: a kitchen in Riverside, Avondale, Ortega, San Marco was laid out long before built-in appliances existed, while a Southside or St. Johns County kitchen was drawn around them. Add the ocean on one edge of the map and the restoration order after a storm on the other, and the same complaint means different things at different addresses. Roughly a 40-mile working radius from the Jacksonville core.
We check first: When the kitchen was built
One city, a housing stock a century apart. Where you live in Jacksonville decides whether the fault is the appliance or the cabinet it was fitted into.
We check first: Whether the suite was installed together
Two kinds of house in one service area: recent Nocatee construction full of built-ins, and Ponte Vedra addresses with outdoor kitchens facing the Atlantic.
We check first: Which half of the county the address is in
A county split between recent inland construction and an oceanfront old town. The two halves need different parts, different access plans and different visits.
We check first: Where the appliance actually lives
Clay County sits on the far side of the metro grid, with deep garages and older river housing. Refrigeration, dishwashers and cooking equipment here fail on outages, heat load and humidity more than on age.
We check first: Fasteners, hinges and door square
Three beach towns with one shared problem: chloride in the air attacking condensers, hinges and stainless, in houses that are often shut up for weeks at a time.
Two of these are asked for by name more than the rest: appliance repair in Orange Park and Fleming Island, on the Clay County side of the river, and appliance repair in Jacksonville itself. Every service area · the seasonal guides behind these patterns
One fee to find out: $80, flat, and it comes off the bill the moment you say go ahead. Past that, built-in appliance work across this coast sits between $240 and $2,520, and where inside that band a job lands is decided by the part that failed rather than by the badge on the door.
Four of the commonest repairs. The equipment, brand and area pages each narrow this table to the rows that belong to them, and the pricing page prints the whole book.
| Repair | Parts and labor |
|---|---|
| Diagnostic visit, flat | $80 |
| Compressor or sealed-system repair | $930–$2,520 |
| Evaporator or condenser fan motor | $280–$600 |
| Door gasket or seal replacement | $240–$600 |
| Defrost heater, thermostat or sensor | $240–$610 |
You get a written estimate before any part is ordered or any labor begins. Nothing proceeds without your approval.
$80 to come out and find the fault, credited back the moment the repair is approved. The work itself lands between $240 and $2,520 on this kind of equipment — $930–$2,520 for compressor or sealed-system repair, $240–$610 for defrost heater, thermostat or sensor — and which of those it turns out to be is the thing the visit settles. Your own number goes in writing before a part is ordered.
The model and serial number off the data plate, the address, and what the appliance is actually doing rather than what you think has broken. The serial matters more than the model: built-in equipment is revised mid-production, and it often decides which board, gasket or motor is the correct one.
Duval County, St. Johns County, Clay County, Nassau County. Roughly a 40-mile working radius from the Jacksonville core. $80 flat diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair when you approve the work.

After the August outage the column came back on but never pulled down past the mid forties. He found the compressor start components cooked by the restoration surge and swapped the whole relay pack. It holds temperature again.

The ice tasted stale and the cubes were cloudy. He descaled the whole water path, replaced the filter housing that had been leaking slightly, and pointed out that our supply is what drives the scaling.
Fenwick T.2025-12-04
The door had begun slamming down rather than holding wherever I let go. He replaced the counterbalance springs and the cables that had frayed at the pulley. It holds at any angle now and closes quietly.
